Default Symphony DE on Ubuntu 8.04 x86-64

There may be some out there that wish to run Symphony DE on the 64bit version of Ubuntu 8.04. Doing this is relatively simple.

Ubuntu 8.04 x86-64 is only a 64bit environment. To get Symphony DE running, all you need to do is install the 32bit application libraries.

    Steps are:

    1) Install Ubuntu 8.04 x86_64, if you haven't already.
    2) As root, install 32bit library support "aptitude install ia32-libs"
    3) Install Symphony DE from tar file.
    4) Setup Environment correctly for Symphony.
    5) Startup soam.
    6) run symping to test.

    Hope this helps,
    cheers
    Leo

    Default Thanks a lot

    Hi Leo,

Thanks a lot.. I tried your tips and it works fine like anything. I was working on this issue for about an year. Nobody could suggest this simple solution till now. It's great.

only one thing: the command to fetch the library is "apt-get install ia32-libs"

    aptitude does the same thing.

Also, if you start aptitude without any arguments, it presents itself with a text based user interface.
